Michele Kell’s Horsemanship Bio:
I started my riding career before I could walk at the Pony Park in south St. Louis. My grandfather bought me my first horse at age 13.
I joined the Ft. Leavenworth Hunt in 1985 at the age of 28. It was one of only two military hunts in the country at this time. Presently, it is the only military hunt in the country. Ft. Leavenworth taught me how to hunt, dress and conduct myself in the hunt field. In essence, they taught me how to ride. My membership is in good standing and I recently returned from a fabulous weekend with them.
From the hunt field I went on to have a lustrous riding career.
Showing on the “A” circuit from 1990-2001.
Enjoyed the winter circuit in Ocala, Florida.
Many year-end jumper awards in Missouri.
I have the honor of holding colors with the following hunts:
*Ft. Leavenworth 1985
*Mission Valley 2002
*Roaring Fork Hounds 2004
Have had the pleasure of riding with many hunts in the United States:
West Palm Beach Hounds
Woody Creek Hounds
My fox hunting career includes hundreds of hunts. The farthest being outside London, England. Have enjoyed riding English in Ireland and Cairo, Egypt through the Sahara desert.
Now, I am happily retired from competitive riding and am enjoying Broce Ranch in Evergreen where my horses Sadie and Rudy reside.
Jerry’s Horsemanship Bio:
Jerry grew up with Draft horses on his grandparent’s dairy farm in Rochester MN. Jerry drove the team of drafts Jack and Jill. Grandpa liked to use the team to pick up and spread manure, so Jerry mastered the tedious job of harnessing the two horse hitch. Jerry rode Missouri Fox Trotters as a young man. Missouri is the home of his other set of grandparents, where he learned basic horsemanship.
Ten years ago Jerry took up riding again. Jerry has trained primarily with Mile High Equestrian center in Parker, Colorado. Trainers include Lynn and Vanda. He has done several local pair paces. His mount ‘Sadie’ is a Rhinelander Thoroughbred cross. This amazing mare makes a sensational cross country horse. Together they have ridden the Gore Mountain Range in Summit County to heights of 11,000 feet!
At Bijou Springs opening hunt in 2010, Jerry helped several injured hounds. Porcupine quills covered many of the hounds. He had a leatherman and the skill to properly remove the barbed quills.
Jerry rode closing Arapahoe Hunt at the castle in 2013. He came upon a member of the Phipps family who had taken a fall. He helped this member remount and followed them safely back to the castle.
Jerry comes to Pet & People Sitters as our ranch manger and resident handyman. He is on hand to help our sitters in bad weather with our company truck BIG RED. His forte’ is custom dog and cat doors which match your home decor and are safe and secure. Jerry helps with charity events like the Paws and Claws Summer Camp at the Littleton Animal shelter.
We are honored to have this skilled craftsman and animal lover on staff. You can often finding him napping with Wilson, the office cat!
